Under the supervision of the Ministry of Energy, SEC signs a strategic MoU with India’s NTPC to enhance cooperation

Under the guidance of the Ministry of Energy, the Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding today, Thursday, September 18, 2025, at the Ministry’s headquarters in Riyadh with NTPC Limited of India. The agreement aims to expand collaboration and share technical expertise in the power sector.

The signing ceremony was attended by Eng. Nasser Al-Qahtani, Assistant Minister of Energy for Electricity Affairs; H.E. Dr. Suhel Ajaz Khan, Indian Ambassador to the Kingdom; Eng. Khaled Al-Ghamdi, CEO of SEC, and Mr. Jaikumar Srinivasan, a board member of NTPC.

Signed the agreement Eng. Abdulrahman Al-Ruhaimi, Executive Vice President of Generation for SEC, and Dr. Jatinder Singh Chandok, General Manager and Head of International Business Development for NTPC.

The MoU covers cooperation in areas such as operating and maintaining power plants, upgrades and modernization, procurement, engineering services, and project management. It also includes joint research and development on advanced energy technologies, establishing a joint venture to provide power plant services in the Middle East, knowledge sharing among specialists, and investments in new power projects.

This move highlights the SEC’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its international partnerships and leverage global expertise to support the growth of the Kingdom’s electricity sector.

It’s noteworthy that the Saudi Electricity Company is the largest power producer, transmitter, and distributor in the Middle East and North Africa, and the main electricity provider in Saudi Arabia, serving over 11 million customers. Meanwhile, NTPC is one of India’s largest state-owned power companies, with an installed capacity of around 77 GW generated from a diverse mix of coal, gas, hydro, wind, and solar sources, with an expanding footprint in international power projects.
